Environmentally Aware Center

Clockwork Learning Centers actively promotes responsible environmental and recycling practices.

We strongly encourage our staff, children and their families to take control of the environment they live in, by thinking about the precious resources they use, particularly water and power.

If we can train our kids to think about their environment, as a matter of everyday living, then this will transfer through their growth and naturally into the thought process of our future generations.

At Clockwork Learning Centers, we will always endeavour to:

  1. Take care that any plants, trees, shrubs or animals are not harmed while playing outdoors;
  2. Use a compost bin for food scraps;
  3. Sweep down paths or paving as opposed to hosing them down;
  4. Provide half flush toilets where possible;
  5. Use dishwasher and washing machines only when environmentally responsible to do so;
  6. Provide water containers at the sandbox for wet sand play as opposed to allowing a tap to slowly run;
  7. Empty water troughs into the garden beds to recycle the water;
  8. Not using drains to dispose of unwanted materials such as oils and paints;
  9. Soak all paintbrushes and other activity instruments before washing them, effectively minimizing the amount of water wastage;
  10. Conserve energy by using as much natural light as possible;
  11. Where possible, hang clothes to dry as opposed to using a clothes dryer;
  12. Buy products in bulk or recyclable containers and avoid products with excess packaging;
  13. Minimize the use of disposable utensils;
  14. Use recycled paper for painting, drawing, collage and office notes as well as recycled materials for art activities such as collage and threading;
  15. Avoid throw-away plastic wrapping where possible, using containers with lids in preference;
  16. Minimize and critically consider the use of food as play materials;
  17. Encourage parents to be aware of environmental issues by requesting recycled materials for use within the centers;
  18. Use natural means to dispose of household pests;
  19. Consider using natural products for cleaning, as opposed to chemicals;
  20. Avoid overuse of plastic and manufactured play materials and whenever possible use natural or recycled alternatives;
  21. Using paper towel in the bathroom. (necessary for effective hygiene practices);
  22. Be alert to potential learning opportunities as they arise, and extend these experiences by providing books and other resources whenever appropriate.
